  • [S23] General Register Office, England and Wales. Civil registration index, England and Wales, July 1837 to date (https://www.gro.gov.uk). This index is based on copies sent in by the incumbent or parish clerk, so there are mistakes. Parish registers of marriage are therefore more reliable than certificates issued by the GRO. In Feb 2022 the online indexes covered births 1837-1934 plus 1984-2020; and deaths 1837-1957 plus 1984-2020. Check their website to see whether that has been expanded. Unlike the old indexes, these show many middle names, and mother's maiden name for births even *before* 1911, and age for deaths even *before* 1865.
  • [S24] General Register Office for England and Wales. Civil registration index, England and Wales, Jul 1837 to date. This source number refers to alternative versions of some sections of the index, such as those on Findmypast (https://tidd.ly/3KIWGEW) and Ancestry (https://bit.ly/AncSS). See also the General Register Office (England and Wales) website's online indexes, and the FreeBMD index.
  • [S25] FreeBMD Index (https://freebmd.org.uk/), derived from the General Register Office (England and Wales) civil registration indexes. Extra information (middle names, mother's maiden name, age at death, etc), and entries for more recent years, may be in the new online indexes on the General Register Office (England and Wales) website. Occasionally, though, FreeBMD has details that are not in the GRO index.
  • [S87] Burial records (cemetery details cited where applicable).
  • [S91] Monumental inscriptions (details cited where applicable).
  • [S124] eCourts (online summary of Queensland Supreme / District Courts civil files) (https://www.courts.qld.gov.au/services/…). For many recent Queensland Supreme Court probate files, this site gives brief details such as executors' names. If the file details say 'Originating Application-Probate' and 'Currently in Brisbane', the will and probate file are usually at Queensland State Archives.
